THE BALTIC SEA EXPEDITION

In the summer of 2014 – an international research expedition sailed in the Baltic Sea.

The expedition took samples of micro plastics in the ocean with the aim to analyze how big the problem is.

Some of the world’s most knowledgeable scientist within their field where on board.

For the first time state of the art tools and techniques where used to measure micro plastics in the Baltic sea.

After three weeks at sea the scientist spent eight months in the laboratories analysing the findings.

One mayor conclusion was that there are large amounts of microplastic in the water. And an alarming consequence are the articles ability to attract toxic chemicals, that are common in the Baltic Sea.
